This is a bit old news, but it’s good to know just how important having a responsive website is. Google announced, via their official blog, that on April 21, 2015 that they would be expanding the use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal with a significant impact in search results in all languages worldwide.
This means that responsive (mobile-friendly) websites are going to rank higher by Google when returning search queries. As mobile traffic quickly becomes the main source of all internet traffic worldwide, Google (and likely other search engines soon to follow) recognize that in order to provide their users with the best experience they need to provide them with content that fits the individual. In their words: “…Users will find it easier to get relevant, high quality search results that are optimized for their devices.”
Test your site!
Google has developed a tool for you to test how mobile friendly your website is. You can find that HERE
What does this mean for your business?
If you don’t already have a responsive website then this means that your site will not rank nearly as high as sites that are mobile-friendly; your website will no longer be doing its job of getting you customers interested in your business.
Pretend for a second that everyone still used phone books. And all of the sudden the folks that print the phonebooks decided to quit printing numbers that were attached to landlines, they only printed phone numbers attached to smartphones. Suddenly you need to have a smartphone if you want people to find you. That’s why this is a big deal and why, if you want people to continue to find you online, you need to have a mobile site.
Fear not, we are so ready for this. Whether you opt for a line of defense (making your current site mobile friendly) or offense (site redesign) we’ve got your back.
